SectionStudioTestCompilation from Jacqueline "Yurika" Nishi-Imai on Vimeo.
Spent the last three
full days working on an animation test for Section Studio. And texted encouragements back and forth with
a friend, who was also taking the test.
Didn’t get the job, so
we’ll just say it’s good practice. (I’ve never studied running animation so
intensely in my life until that last weekend) Well… got to keep going!
Got some feedbacks
too. I’ll be copying and pasting them below so I wouldn’t have to hunt through
my email to find it again. (and maybe
you guys will find it useful too, and learn what mistakes not to make)
“Lets start with the
run. First thing that popped at me is that this run doesn't make the sword feel
heavy at all. Things that could help is to slow his run, hunch him over so more
of the weight is on his back, Have a hand on the sword while running to balance
the weight, etc. Look at the looping of the right foot. There is a wobble that
shouldn't be there. In general the feet I would like to see a bit more
extension before the plant and have a more solid push off. While he is running
with the sword at his side there should be a visible weight shift to reflect
the weight of the sword.
For the overhead
strike I like the idle pose though I would have liked to have him stand a
smidge straighter to imply more proficiency with the sword.. Overall I do see
the weight or snappiness I was hoping to see but the posing is not quite there.
I would have liked to see more body put into lifting the sword for example.
Also the front foot I would have liked to see fully extend as the body
comes up, struggling to pull the weight over. Then as the weight of the sword
passes over this pivot or fulcrum, then we see the sword come crashing down.
Overall too much arm and not enough body.”
