Still a got a couple days to work on
it, wish me luck!!

And for those of you who are thinking
about doing the 11 Sec Club competition [http://www.11secondclub.com/]; REMEMBER….
it’s due on the last day of the month midnight NY TIME (not Pacific time).  I made that mistake last month….

Comparison Reel - 11 Sec Club Nov 2014

Despite being a frequent visitor to the 11 Sec Club (http://www.11secondclub.com/), this is the first time I am participating in the monthly competition.

So halfway through animating this, I discovered a thread on 11SecClub which talked about avoiding overacting, indicating, etc. (http://www.11secondclub.com/helpful_hints/acting_it_out)

Go check it out! It's really insightful.

It was after reading this article, I sadly realized that I have fallen into so much pitfalls of not having "original" ideas, and having my character look like an actor (rather then "BEING" the character) :P

Ah, well, it was a good learning experience at least

(you may notice the desperate attempt to be "interesting" in my animation with a cat, airplane motion, and a peace sign)

All critiques (preferably structured critiques) welcome!

Yurika Student Progress Reel

Something I put together really quickly to take with me to CTN tomorrow (http://www.ctnanimationexpo.com/)
Don't know if I'll have the courage to show it to anyone, but might as well have something just in case :)

Cashier Doodle #7 - 11.18.14

It's been a while since I did some cashier doodles.

Here's some drawings I did at work today; the ever so popular Dynamic Drawing exercises.
It definitely helped the time pass by. Hopefully, I'll be doing more in the future (huh, I always say that don't I?)

Twenty Six - Grp Project - FIRST PASS

Our next assignment was a group project.

We had to animate to a clip taken from Night at the Museum; and the first pass was due today.

This is what we had to turn in.

Definitely got a few things to fix (camera angle, posing, timing, etc.)

We had a good laugh at the Morpheus I animated at the beginning. At that moment, we found out that I can only animate women and fruity men.

Lipsync Comparison Reel

A Comparison Reel of my first lipsync!

Gear (Emotional) Change - Playblast

Unlike the scrapped Gear Change that I previously uploaded (https://vimeo.com/110684300), this is the version I decided to redo.
I simplified it to to only one Character (Ultimate Bony which can be downloaded here:http://www.uguryetiskin.com/ultimate_...)
and kept the magic card element.

Hope to make the tweaks and corrections I got from class sometime in the future. We'll see...

Phoneme Assignment with Mery and Morpheus

Getting prepared to do my first lipsyncing. Phonemes are the mouth shapes you make when you talk.
These aren't perfect, but it's something to go off at least.

Gear (Emotional) Change - SCRAP

Another assignment from SMC ET24C.

This time it's all about Gear (Emotional) Change.

I scrapped this one because during the critique, I was told that this was "good animation but bad acting." And I just felt that there's really nothing in the world to save bad action, so might as well scrap this and start over.

I just felt like sharing this anyways to just to say that sometimes you'll have a situation where it'll be better to scrap and start all over, rather than trying to save what you have. Plus it'll be good practice :)

3 HIT COMBO ASSIGNMENT - Comparing LiveAction, 2D, 3D

Another comparison video for Animation Assignment Number Two: the 3 Hit Combo!

Had to speed up the Live Action reference because I didn't want the video to be too long. Finding the timing was a huge issue for me in this assignment. The aerial flip was also a difficult task for me since the head was suppose to stay in one place as the rest of the body rotates around it. But it was lots of fun and good learning experience.

There is a bat twirl at the end for the Live Action and 2D, but I didn't have enough time do do it in 3D. Ah well, maybe in another assignment.

The model I used was Scout from Team Fortress 2. It was downloaded from Creative Crash:

Good Advices that were given to me:
"Don't bite off more than you can chew"  "Keep it short and simple; and have it be really REALLY nice to look at"

TURNAROUND ASSIGNMENT - Comparing LiveAction, 2D, 3D

I figured it was about time I would upload something (from school) again. We just  turned in our Turnaround Assignment.
I need to make some minor tweaks that Professor Jason Shum (btw, you can see him walking in the backgroun in the Live Action reference. haha) critiqued on.

Look forward to the fully rendered final version. Coming hopefully sooner than later!

PS. Reference does help!

Bouncing Ball Assignments

I wish I could sleep, but my body simply got accustomed to being a night owl.
So I thought I'd post some bouncing ball assignments I did for the 3D character animation class at SMC.
Maybe I'll slowly post more school stuff later.

Spinosaurus - 3D Character Creation Final [fall 2013]

A final I did for my 3D Character Modeling class with Professor Choi Young at SMC.
This guy specifically is based on a keychain my college roommate gave me from a dinosaur museum. All modeled in Zbrush from scratch and used the puppet tool in After Effects to add a tad bit of life.

Spinosaurus is my favorite dinosaur of all time. The largest carnivorous animal to have ever walked on this earth. It's even bigger than the Tyrannosaurus and Gigantosaurus!
When I showed this project to my dad, he said "Oh, it's not T-rex? What a wimpy looking dinosaur." So I showed him Jurassic Park III. For those who may have forgotton, here's a clip of Trex vs Spinosaurus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7tNqjsclhs
The first movie is still the best :)

That's it! Thanks for stopping by!

ZBrush Final

I thought I posted these up when fall semester ended. But I was mistaken. Well... better late than never!
