ZBrush Midterm

It’s been a while. I thought I’d just post my midterm that I recently finished for ZBrush. Right now I’m working on my Zbrush Final, which is a Spinosaurus!

Lighting and Rendering projects

Lighting and Rendering Final

Thought I'd post something from school again. This is the final I turned in for my Lighting and Rendering class. Everything was modeled from scratch in maya; then put together in After Effects. I'll admit... I just wanted to animate the candle. I went to Prof. Chris Fria for help and he graciously helped make this project much MUCH better despite me not being his student that semester (so I can't take all the credit). Definitely learned a lot on how to model cartooney objects. My poor laptop just kept overheating and crashing while working on this project (or was it more because maya's just a glitchy little program? hmm....)

Here are some other stuffs from the same class throughout the spring semester.

Basic Modeling Final (Wiimote)

My friend (Cho) asked me to put up some things I did for my final. So here it is! Hope you all like it.

For our Intro to Basic Modeling Final, we had to model a remote control in maya. We also had a choice to model phones (as long as they're not iphones).
I was very lucky to have been taking a Lighting and Rendering class in the same semester; so I was also able to add in textures for the buttons, and displacement for the audio holes and ("Nintendo" and "B") grooves on the backside.
Definitely could have have modeled more efficiently (notice how the edges don't line up neatly on the wireframe models?), but I definitely learned a lot. Modeling isn't really my ultimate career plan, but I definitely think it'll be a good idea to know about it. Onwards, yo!

Clouds (Nausicaa Fan Art)

Just speed sketching practice. Last night I really, REALLY wanted to draw clouds. At first it was just only going to be clouds, but the upper left corner looked empty.  So I decided to add in Nausicaa and another random flyer for scale and composition. Thus, this piece became a Nausicaa fan art!
Hope to do more speed sketching and up my skills. Enjoy!

This drawing was done in Photoshop.

More geometry studies while working. Some boolean-ing, some head, some, random.

Cashier Doodle - #5

I think my favorite geometry is a cube. They're so beautiful and you can always tell which way they're facing.
These are exercises from Peter Han’s Dynamic Sketching class. I hope to take that class one day….

Condolences

My condolences to those who have been affected by the Santa Monica College shooting. My heart goes out to all of you. I deplore this type of senseless violence. "The true measure of a great institution is in how it responds in its darkest hour." Let's make sure to check in on each other and help those who need it. I hope all my classmates and professors are okay. I'll see you in a few hours to close our spring semester.

Color Theory – Visual Music and Color Script Assignment

The final assignments for my Color Theory Class at Santa Monica College.  Professor Steve Brown had to leave school two weeks before spring semester ended and asked us to email the last two assignments to him. Just in case, if he weren't able to open my files, I decided to also include him a link to here. And also to have a record that these assignments were actually done on time :)

VISUAL MUSIC
We were supposed to pick a 60 sec snippet of a lyric-less music and create a storyboard animatic with no recognizable imagery. There needs to be at least 6 keys and 5 transitions between them.  I now realize that I was perhaps too much getting into the timing and animation right. And I hope waterdrops aren't "recognizable imagery". Ah, well I did my best to “feel” the colors. Overall, good practice for me.
Here are some concepts drawings that I used as reference: http://yurika-you-found-me.blogspot.com/2013/06/cashier-doodle-4.html
Music Used: Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Little” Fugue in G Minor

COLOR SCRIPT
(Little Red Riding Hood)
My first color script ever. Not the best drawings...so~ let's concentrate on the pretty colors shall we? Just make sure to have at least 10 feet distance between you and this image. If you're wearing contacts or glasses, take them off. If you have foggy goggles, put them on.

Cashier Doodle - #4

It’s been a while since I posted a Cashier Doodle. Anyways, these ones are ones done about a month ago. More volume practice. I just felt like doing something flowy and organic (and of course, more cubes). These drawings were eventually became inspirations and were incorporatd in my Color Theory Visual Music Project, which I promise to post soon.

The Box (Intro to 3D Fundamental Final)

This is the final I've turned in for my first Maya class. Don't forget to turn on your speakers =) I've spent a lot of time attempting to sync the music to the action too.  There are a few things that could have been better, and this animation is quite simple compared to a professional's; but I've spent quite a few sleepless nights to complete it, and it's been a great experience. I've learned so much by creating this project (all from scratch too!)
Hope to improve as I post more maya stuff in the future.

Until then, Enjoy!

Cashier Doodle - #2

More Cashier Doodles from work. This time 3 box flaps!
I've been very much into simple geometries lately.
The exercise where you merge geometries is actually one of Peter Han's exercise.
He's one of my fav artist; here's a link to his website: http://www.peterhanstyle.com/index2.php#/rgallery3/1/

Cashier Doodle - #1

Just a little drawing I did while working (I'm a cashier at Nijiya Market)
I'm very lucky that I'm allowed to doodle when there're aren't any customers around.
I have a HUGE stack of box flaps that I always cut off with my box cutter whenever I see; (Hey, it's free toned paper!)and they all need to be drawn on.
Anyways, felt like sharing this one. I was just fascinated with cubes and rectangles that day.
Definitely more cashier doodles to come soon. Thanks for stopping by :)

Fun Nijiyamaru Concept Art

I work part time at a Japanese convenient store called Nijiya. Apparantly, this company actually has a mascot named Nijiyamaru. Except....he only exists as a name. So I made some fun doodles at work and scanned them into my laptop and finished it in Flash. These aren't seriously going to be considered (unfortunately). But it was a fun making these wacky concepts up. When I showed them to my co-workers, a lot of them voted for the frog. Which one do you like best?

Landscape Practice

Just learning/practicing more Photoshop and a bit of Color Theory.
I followed along this really neat tutorial from Digital Tutors called "Light and Color Study: Night Scene"
Here is the link if anyone is interested (the small drawback is you or a friend have to be subscribed to this site)
[link]
I've really learned a lot from this. Hope to draw more and improve my digital art skills.
