2D Design - Notan

For this class project, we had to pick a fantasy or fairy tale and depict it in Notan, "a Japanese design concept involving the play and placement of light and dark next to the other in art and imagery" ([link])

I chose the classic Little Red Riding Hood

Our final had to use 6x6 white paper, cut it up, and rubber cement/glue it onto a black board. Here's the catch: we had to use ALL of the white paper. No little piece gets thrown out because that would "unbalance" the amount of white and black being used in the picture.

Also, the positive and negative spaces had to be something; aka it can't be a background. My professor said how we should think of it like cutting a rolled out dough with a cookie cutter and have that remaining dough "needs to be something, not just a thing with holes in it". Bah! I did my best on that.

Enjoy!
